Join us on 8/20, from 6-8 pm, in celebrating the opening of Our True Colors

Statement: Colorful work is powerful, not just pleasing to look at. It conveys feelings, temperature, and is a tool for expression when words, sounds or other means fail us. Throughout history, women traditionally had to hide who they were to fit into social norms. Recognizing our feminist forebearers and founding artists who “stood up,” we proudly continue to take this path forward. Through our colorful and vibrant creations we are speaking out, sharing our values, and letting our true sentiments and feelings be known. Our creative visions and mastery of our chosen mediums are revealed in styles ranging from abstract to realism in painting, mixed media, relief sculpture, pastel, prints and watercolor.

Exhibiting Artists: Alli Berman, Deborah Dorsey, Marcine Glover, Pamela Hawkins, Marilyn Herbst, Karen L. Kirshner, Nancy Macina, Margo Mead, Margaret Montgomery, Jacqueline Sferra Rada, Helaine Soller, Tobey Soller, Judith Van Camp.

Celebrating its 55th year Women In the Arts Foundation, Inc., WIA artists continue to challenge the art world. The exhibit Our True Colors follows in the tradition of its forebearers, bringing awareness of the profound impact of women artists, whose voices have and continue to shape not only the art world but also broader cultural and social narratives.

Join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of Women In the Arts Foundation, Inc. and the enduring contributions of women artists!

Founded in 1971 during a period of intense social and artistic change, WIA Women In the Arts Foundation, Inc. has been at the forefront of the fight to end discrimination against women artists. From picketing major institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art, to securing history - making exhibitions of women's work, such as Women Choose Women at the New York Cultural Center 1973, Works On Paper, Women Artists 1975 at the Brooklyn Museum, and Women In the Arts Artists Choice 1976-1977 a traveling exhibition. WIA has tirelessly advocated for equal representation and equity, in the eyes of the art world, opening opportunities for women artists.

WIA's commitment to empowering women artists has evolved over the decades. While it once focused on direct action and protest, the organization now places a strong emphasis on presenting exhibits of members’ work in museums, galleries, universities, colleges and corporate galleries in addition to its professional development and networking programs. WIA conducts the Dorothy M. Gillespie Speakers Series featuring art world luminaries offering unique reflections on the role of women in shaping the contemporary art landscape.

Founded in 1971 and incorporated in 1973 WIA is a not for profit 501 (c) (3) organization.
