The band was formed in 1998, with the original name "Disgruntled Employees" and the four original members: James Weston-vocals, Kyle Wyer-Guitar, Jeff Edwards-Bass, and Darcy Fletcher-Drums.
The band played various clubs around Durham and Toronto and aqquired a second guitar player Ryan Hicks.
In February of 2000 the band changed their name to "Switch96" and went into the studio to record a six song demo CD.
After the CD was finished the two guitar players were replaced by Geoff Schultz and Aaron Fletcher, they also aquired a second singer, Keith Yaskovich, and the name was changed to "Blank Shift". Since then the band has been playing more and more shows.
